Rockin’ Green is an award-winning manufacturer of eco-friendly cleaning products designed to make cleaning easier and greener. Rockin’ Green was founded by Kim Webb in 2009, she is a clothe diapering mom like us who wanted a better way to clean her diapers and watch out for her child's sensitive skin.
Although, Rockin' Green is most known for being a cloth diaper detergent it can be safely used with all of your everyday laundry. Rockin’ Green's detergents come in different formulas that work with hard, soft and normal water conditions (known as Hard Rock, Soft Rock and Classic Rock). If you don't know what your water type is they sell Water Quality Test Strips for as little as $0.60.
Rockin’ Green also carries Funk Rock, a first-of-its kind natural ammonia bouncer, Melody, an odor-neutralizer and air freshener home spray, Shake It Up Pail Freshener, for wet bags or diaper pails, Femme Rock, a cloth menstrual pad detergent, and Dog House Rock, an equally Eco-Friendly Pet Bed and Toy Detergent. Most of their[products are available in seven natural scents, such as Smashing Watermelons, Earth Wind & Orchids, Rage Against the Raspberry, and Bare Naked Babies (unscented). Unsure which scent you might like the most? They also carry Detergent Sample Packs which are good for 1-2 washes for as little as $0.85. In addition to detergents Rockin' Green carries a diaper sprayer, scoops, reusable totes, and more!
I can't tell you how excited I was to be able to do a review on Rockin' Green Soap. I've heard a lot about it but, like a lot moms, I was sure that I could find something that would work at my local grocery store. The problem is that none of those detergents are specifically designed for cloth diapers. Which is why so many start to have problems with build up, strong ammonia smells, and diapers repelling. Not to mention, your everyday detergents don't come in special formulas for soft, hard, or normal water.
For this review I received three samples from Rockin' Green in Motley Clean, Smashing Watermelon, and Rage Against the Raspberry. I chose the Hard Rock because we have hard water here and its been a struggle finding something that didn't, in the end, end up causing problems.
First impressions: I was surprised that the scent wasn't as overpowering as I had expected it to be, in fact, it was the perfect amount of fragrance. Most likely, it wouldn't bother people with allergic reactions to scents but if it does Rockin' Green also comes in an unscented version called Bare Naked Babies.
The first load of cloth diapers that I washed contained a combination of AI2's, Pockets, Fitteds, Prefolds, Covers, and Flats. I started as I normally do with a cold rinse, then a wash cycle with detergent, then a follow up rinse. Usually when I hang my diapers to dry I then have to toss them in the dryer for a minute, on no heat, just to fluff them up and make them feel soft again. However, after using Rockin' Green Hard Rock I was able to skip this step. I simply pull them off of my drying rack and I was good to go. Of course, I had to smell them since I had just used this delicious scent but to my surprise it was just a clean smell left over. I have not yet found a "grocery store" detergent that leaves my diapers with this non-perfumy clean leftover scent. These yummy scents are just for mom since there is nothing left over to irritate your baby's sensitive skin and nose.
The second load was of our family clothing. I threw in a mixture of my families laundry including some of the little ones stained shirts. Everything came out super clean with no stains and just that wonderful clean scent left over.
The third packet I saved to soak some of my inserts that I have had problems with ever since my Liquid Tide fiasco. I soaked the inserts in two tablespoons of Rockin Green for 3 hours (busy mama lost track of time) then washed them and did two rinses. Keep in mind these inserts had gotten so bad that when little one would wet them we were hit with a horribly over-whelming eye burning ammonia smell. After soaking them I am happy to report that it fixed my inserts. Taj has worn them all week and I have not smelled anything even once!
What I loved most about this whole experience is that I learned that I no longer need one detergent for the family, one that's safe for baby, and a third detergent for my diapers. With Rockin' Green I was able to wash everything with just two tablespoons of one detergent. This is one happy mama who will be switching to Rockin' Green!
Now one of you lucky readers will get the chance to try this out in their home! Rockin' Green and I are giving away one 45/90 load bag of detergent. Enter to win via the rafflecopter form below.
